If your employer decides to bring disciplinary proceedings against you, they should follow the basic and correct procedure. Employers and employees should always try to solve workplace disputes informally in the workplace.
The law on unfair dismissal requires employers to act reasonably when dealing with disciplinary issues, and as we mentioned above, before any disciplinary proceedings are introduced it would be reasonable behaviour if the parties concerned could solve their differences without going down a formal path. Employers should encourage employees to improve or modify their behaviour rather than imposing a punishment.
If your employer has started disciplinary proceedings against you and you believe it is unfair or believe that they are discriminating against you, it is important to keep calm, don't walk out or get angry, listen to what your employers have said and write as much of it down as you can remember. Keep it private and ring us right away or send us an email including all the details of what was said to you.
